MOUNTAIN CLIMB
This work is inspired by my origins and my new home—the mountainous terrain. If Vrubel painted rocks how it would look like? My origin culture becomes increasingly distant for me the more I assimilate into western culture.
It’s a challenge to convey to my daughter the full breadth of Russian culture when I have not lived in Russia for a long time. I feel like in Korney Chukovsky's Soviet children's book, "And he begins to crawl along the mountains, And the mountains become higher and higher, And the mountains become steeper and steeper, And the mountains disappear right under the clouds!"
